Functional upgrading “Fattoria Medicea” to new hotel facility

The project has as its object the construction of a hotel facility intended for the reception of Fire Department personnel, in the property called “Fattoria Medicea,” within the complex of “Villa Bellavista” located in Borgo a Buggiano (PT) , owned by the National Assistance Opera for the personnel of the National Fire Brigade.

The property, originally intended as stables and service quarters of the Villa Bellavista, had been converted into a military hospital during World War II and later into a boarding school for orphans of firefighter personnel through a series of major but casual modifications of the building’s interior and exterior.

Thus, the project included all the civil, structural and plant engineering work necessary for the construction of the new hotel structure and the arrangement of the relevant outdoor areas and, at the same time, elimination of all those superfetations or worthless modifications added over the years to restore the building to its original configuration.

Particularly important in the scope of the work are all the consolidation and structural interventions in general, for the recovery of degraded or poorly executed structures and for the construction of new structures functional for the performance of the new accommodation activity.

The significant architectural and landscape limitations falling on the area required a design that respected the architectural characteristics of the pre-existence, while optimizing the use of space to meet the needs of the new use.

In the definition of the outdoor spaces, connecting with the other buildings of the monumental complex, modern stylistic choices were made, recognizable, but at the same time respectful of the pre-existence.

The use of natural materials such as sandstone and terracotta has facilitated this integration.
