Description

The work involved the detailed architectural, structural, and plant design of in-progress variants carried out during the construction works to meet new functional requirements of the client and address technical issues that arose during the construction of the foundation structures. It also included the supervision of architectural, structural, and plant works for the construction of the new Refrigerated Warehouse building in the expansion area H of the Rome Agro-Food Centre (CAR).

The industrial-type building has a total covered area of over 3,000 square meters and features a prefabricated elevation structure and a complex plant system designed to minimize the consumption of an inherently energy-intensive structure.

The main issues encountered during the works were related to the need to change the type of foundations (from direct to indirect) due to a geomorphological situation that was underestimated during the executive design phase.

Additionally, the work involved the consolidation and expansion of previous earth reinforcement works, carried out to increase the footprint of the new building, altering the original orography of the area, which was characterized by a steep slope towards the valley floor and presented significant settlements that were incompatible with the structures to be built in the area.

Among the variants managed during the works was the installation of a new photovoltaic system on the building’s roof, with a capacity of approximately 66 kWp.
